Any driver who intends to drive a vehicle containing dangerous goods is required to comply with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009. These regulations implement the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, known as ADR.

In order to comply with these regulations, drivers must be in possession of an ADR Vocational Driving Certificate when transporting dangerous goods.

To gain this certificate, drivers must pass the relevant examinations accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) exam board.
